Description “Healthy Children and Healthy Families” is one of the Mayor’s DNC Legacies. On Wednesday, September 5, CMS second graders at First Ward Creative Arts Academy and farmers from the 7th Street Public Market will join forces to inspire healthy living and wellness for the school’s children. They will plant the inaugural fruit and vegetable garden at the school’s Sense and Science Garden.
The Wells Fargo Sense and Science Garden supports CMS district wide efforts and initiatives in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) education. The garden allows students to get outdoors to explore math and science concepts related to the environment. The Wells Fargo Sense and Science Garden also provides a central location for curriculum workshops for CMS Staff professional development and will become a community asset for the neighborhood.
The Wells Fargo Sense and Science Garden is funded through a grant from Wells Fargo as well as numerous community partnerships and contributions. The 1.25 acre garden includes an outdoor classroom and performance stage, a bird, butterfly and insect garden, an ozone garden, a wetland/dry stream garden, an edible schoolyard garden, compost education area, a rain water collection system, playground, and open play and recreation lawn.
