His take on North Carolina and why the convention is here: “This is a state that the president won by some 14,000 votes last election four years ago. It’s a dynamic state. …The South is a changing place. I think this is an opportunity to showcase a great state for the South, a great progressive state.”

And on Charlotte? “It’s a city that’s very comfortable with itself.”
